so the money you could spend on that repeating crossbow you could instead put toward a magical crossbow. With rapid reload you don't really need a repeating crossbow (unless your going to be using the heavy crossbow of course). Any suggestions will help and will try to respond back if anyone has any questions about the game or character crossbow which i'm saving gold up to buy if there is one at any city we enter. Str:16, Dex:18, Con:16, Int:13, Wis:12, Cha:13.įeats I got are: Point-Blank Shot, Precise Shot, Rapid Reload(for the crossbow), and haven't selected my last.ĭon't really know what books i should look at for more feats that would help me benefit with a crossbow, or a repeating h. I am currently a female human, level 2, fighter. crit confirmations(natural 20 = max dmg, <20 = double/triple dmg), skill point training is always 1, no starving/thirst problems at most occasions Some house rules that we have no: 1.reagent/exp cost, 2. The books we are allowed to only use are any of the PF, no d&d 3.5e allowed. In the campaign, we are workers/slaves on a pirate ship, though being hinted that we are going to eventually mutiny. Looks like pretty close to a toss-up really.Hello everyone, in my first pathfinder game as a fighter, attempting to focus on using crossbows or just being ranged because they get a lot of feats and because in the party there is only 1 other ranged and its a sorcerer. And, of course, if you aren't bypassing DR, the greater base damage of the Great Crossbow delivers a higher percentage of the damage to the target. OTOH, the Great Crossbow's base damage is double that of a Light Repeater, so effects that multiply will be more effective on it. So effects will proc about 60% more often with a repeater (That includes Sneak Attack damage). So it really depends on what effects vs base damage you have on the crossbows. Repeater: 27 groups of 3 bolts (total 81 shots or about 60% more). With RR & RS Feats, I enabled Endless Fusillade twice: once with Repeater, and once with Great Crossbow. I'll check on that as soon as I get that enhancement. I'm running a Rogue/Arti crossbow build atm. I've never done a test, but when the latter's active, they seem awfully similar. It's far from 3x as fast-firing once you get Rapid Reload, Rapid Shot, and Endless Fusillade. The counter-argument is that with repeater you get three times the chance to vorpal or critical hit (if you are proc'ing with your vorpal repeater you can really motor thru stuff). Rodfather původně napsal:I really like Great Crossbows for my pure Rogues primarily because of the knockdown effect and also good single shot dmg (usually around base dmg 90 by lvl 18). Used judiciously, it easily handles all the major fights between shrines, especially if you also invest in 3 levels of Extra Action Boost. It makes a Great Crossbow shoot almost as fast as a Repeater by eliminating the reload time. (However, Inquisitor enhancements don't work on either, only on regular Light or Heavy Crossbows.)Īnd if you take at least 4 levels of Arti, you can grab the enhancement "Endless Fusillade" at Tier 4 (prereq is a bunch of other goodies that boost crossbow damage). Rogue damage enhancements greatly favor Great Crossbows. The higher base damage means less worries about mob DR. Repeating Crossbows are awesome for the first few levels, but after that, I prefer Great Crossbows. Some are auto-granted to Artificers and/or Rangers, but I don't believe Rogues get any. In addition, without certain Feats, a crossbow-user of any type will be gimped. Iiuc, with the Great Crossbow you just get the usual penalties for lack of proficiency, but with the Repeater, it actually functions like a regular crossbow instead. Yes, you need an exotic weapon feat to use either the Great Crossbow or the Repeating Crossbows.
